How many practice are there per week? A: We will normally have 2 scheduled practices per week. We will have practices on Thursday nights and Sunday afternoons.
3. When is the Parent Meeting and what will we be doing? A: The parent informational meeting is held in the High School cafeteria in early October. At that time we will discuss dues, practices, coaches, etc. Please visit the website for updates at www.prairievolleyballclub.org. You can also call the HOTLINE at 846-1665 for updates on times and locations. 4. How much are the dues? A: Dues to be determined and will be announced at the Kickoff meeting in November. However, we are hoping to keep them in the same range as previous years. Which have been between $250 - $350. 5. Is there a deposit and when should dues be paid? A: A $50 placement practice fee for girls age 12-14 (grades 6-8) will be charged. These fees will be credited to your daughter’s team dues. If your daughter is not placed on a team the $50 will be refunded. If your daughter is placed on a team and declines the placement, the deposit will not be refunded. These fees will be collected on the first night of placement/open gym times. An additional $50 start up fee will be due on the night of the Kickoff Meeting. Again this will be credited to your daughter’s team dues. A $100 deposit will be collected from the girls ages 15-17 (grades 9-11) at the time of the Kickoff Meeting. The remainder of the dues will be collected as follows: ½ of the remainder of dues will be collected in Mid-December and the remaining balance due the first week of February. 6. Is the uniform an additional cost? A: Yes. You will need to purchase a jersey. We will be using jerseys similar to the high school practice jerseys. Your daughter will also need a pair of black spandex shorts or regular gym shorts. The jersey is about $15 and the spandex shorts are around $20. If your daughter has already purchased a pair of spandex she can use them. 7. Are there other expenses? A: Each girl will also need to purchase knee pads, shoes, and socks. Volleyball shoes are not mandatory, but most girls do purchase them. We ask that your daughter not wear Nike Shox. There is optional clothing and most girls purchase the warm-up suit. Many of the tournament sites including our own tournaments are charging admission fees ranging from $3-$5. If a team decides to participate in an out of town tournament, such as Regionals, there will be additional expenses. 8. Are there any discounts to dues? A: There can be. If you are elected a Parent Rep for your team and choose to take on those responsibilities you will receive $150 credit towards the dues. If you choose to be a board member and are elected you could potentially receive $175 towards your dues. 9. Who is coaching? A: Final coaches are determined by the end of October. 10. How are the teams chosen? A: Placement practices are held for 12U, 13U and 14U teams. These placement practices will take place prior to the Kickoff meeting. The 15U, 16U and 17U teams will be evaluated by the high school coaching staff and placed accordingly. During these practices, the players will be evaluated by several of the Prairie Coaches from different levels. Coaches want to make certain to match up player’s level of experience and skill so that girls with less experience do not become frustrated and those with more experience are challenged. T he maximum number per team will be 8 players when possible. 11. Is transportation provided to the tournaments? A: No. Players are responsible to get to the tournament on their own. Tournaments are decided by parent reps with input given by parents and coaches. Teams play between 4-6 tournaments. Tournaments start in January and are usually held on Saturdays and Sundays. Most of the tournaments are held within Iowa, and are close. However a team can choose to go to a two day tournament out of state. It is up to the team and coaches. 12. Is there an admission charge to attend the tournaments? A: Most tournament sites, including our own are charging a gate fee of $3-$5. 13. I participate in AAU basketball or another club, can I still play club volleyball? A: The Club recognizes that players may be involved in other activities. Attendance to practice and tournaments is important for the success of the player and team. Attendance is generally at the discretion of the coaches, however, communication with the coach is mandatory. 14. My daughter does not have much experience. Will she get to play? A: Equal pay does not mean equal play. However, she would receive the same level of instruction and attention during practices from the coaches, which would give her the opportunity she needs to improve her skills. 15. I am in other sports and am not sure that I want to join yet. When is the absolute deadline to join? A: We would like to have a firm commitment by the time the placement practices/open gym times start. Teams will be formed based on the number of girls who attend these sessions. If you join later and we have reached the maximum number for that team, we may not be able to get you assigned to a team. You do have until December 1st to join, but only if there are still spots available. The Club will take no further applications after December 1st unless we need more players to complete a team. 16. Is there a Code of Ethics? A: Yes. Each player & parent must sign the Club Code of Ethics as well as the Iowa Region Code of Ethics. 17. What do I do after the Parent Information Meeting? A: At the parent meeting you will be asked if you want to be part of Club. You will be asked to fill out a PLAYER INFORMATION FORM so that we can start to get the proper number of coaches. Your daughter will then need to attend any special practices/open gym for her age group so we can place her on a team. Once your daughter has been informed of team assignment you will then need to sign up online for your Iowa Regional membership. Full instructions will be available on our website and in handouts at the meeting. At the Kick off meeting you will need to provide us with several forms, proof of Regional membership and $50 of your dues. 18. When is the Kick-Off and what do I need to do? A: The Kick-Off meeting is generally set for early November. The location will be announced on the website and the HOTLINE 846-1665. Everyone who provides us with a workable e-mail address at the Parent meeting will be notified via e-mail of the time and location. At the kick off meeting you will need to bring with you:
