PRAIRIE VOLLEYBALL CLUB

 FREQUENTLY ASKED ???
UPDATED Oct. 19, 2009

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS & ANSWERS DURING CLUB SEASON:

1. How long is the season for Club Volleyball?
A:  Practices start after State Finals for regular season.  Special practices to determine placement on teams will be as follows:

2. How many practice are there per week?
A:  We will normally have 2 scheduled practices per week: We hope to again practiceThursday night and Sunday afternoons.

3.  When is the Parent Meeting and what will we be doing?

A:  The parent informational meeting will be Sunday, October 18th at the High School in the cafeteria at 4pm.  At that time we will discuss dues, practices, coaches, etc.   Please review website homepage for updates at www.prairievolleyballclub.org.  *** The location of this meeting is tentative please go to HOTLINE 846-1665 after Oct. 15th for final location.

4. How much are the dues?
A:  Dues to be determined and will be announced Oct. 18th at parent meeting; however, we are hoping to keep them in the same range as last year.  6TH GRADE (12u)dues should be around $265

5.  Is there a deposit and when should dues be paid?

A:  We are not asking for a deposit at the parent meeting this year, but would greatly appreciate knowing how many girls want to play, so that we know how many coaches to hire.  We will be asking for $100 at the time of the kick off so that we have the funds to enter tournaments.  There is a new process this year for registering for tournaments which will immediately withdraw the funds from our account.  This $100 will go towards your dues.  The only time that the Club would refund this deposit is if we fail to form a team.

Then 1/2 of the rest of your dues are due in Mid December, and the remaining amount will be due mid January.  If you prefer, you can pay all at once at the Kick Off on Sunday, Nov. 15th.

6.  Is the uniform an additional cost?
A:  Yes. The cost will cover one top.  For 12U & 13U we hope to have t-shirts which will be less than $20.00. For all other ages:  we hope to be using uniform tops similar to the high school practice tops.  If we have a team that has played the previous year and can utilize last year's uniform then we will try our best to do so.  The libero top will be shared among the team.  The shorts cost around $20 and can be ordered through club.  If your daughter played last year, she may use the same shorts if they fit.

7.  Are there other expenses?  A:  Each girl will also need to purchase knee pads, shoes (no specific required, however, Prairie has banned Shocks for volleyball players), and socks.  Also, the cost of gas to get to and from the tournaments.  Food during the tournaments.  Hotel stay if team participates in an overnight.  There is optional clothing and most girls purchase the warm-up suit.  Regionals are in  Des Moines and if you go it could be a two night stay for teams 13U and up.  Teams would also have to cover hotel costs for coaches.

8.   Are there any discounts to dues?
A:  There can be.  If you are elected a Parent Rep for your team and choose to take on those responsibilities you will receive $100 credit towards the dues.   If you choose to be a board member and are elected you could potentially receive $175 towards your dues.

9. Who is coaching?
A:  Final coaches have not yet been determined.  A list of coaches will be provided on your team directory.  We are currently recruiting coaches now.  We will have a few returning coaches.

10. How are the teams chosen?

A:  There are placement practices for 12U , 13U and 14U.  The Placement practices will take place as follows:
        November 2:  6:00-7:30pm- 7th grade
                                  7:30-9:00pm - 8th grade
November 5:  Same as November 2nd

        November 9-10:  7:00-8:30pm - 6th grade

The 15U girls will be observed during regular season play and will be assigned accordingly by Coach Geary and coaching staff.

16U will be observed during regular season play and will be assigned accordingly by Coach Geary and coaching staff.
17U will be assigned by Coach Geary and Coach Stecklein.
All coaches will evaluate players where there will be two or more teams.  Players are placed by age.  The maximum number per team will be 8 girls when possible except for the younger girls. Since we have two teams in an age group:  Coaches want to make certain to match up player’s level of experience so that the girls with less experience do not become frustrated and those with more experience are challenged.

11. Is transportation provided to the tournaments?
A:  No. Players are responsible to get to the tournament on their own. Tournaments are decided by coaches and team. Teams play between 4-6 tournaments.  Older teams may play a few more. Tournaments start in January and are usually held on Saturday and Sundays. Either full or 1/2 days. Most of the tournaments are held within
Iowa
; and are close; however; a team can choose to go to a two day tournament out of state. It is up to the team and coaches.

12. Is there an admission charge to attend the tournaments?
A:  Sometimes; however, it is usually only $1.00-$3.00.

13. I participate in AAU basketball or another club, can I still play club volleyball?
A:  The Club recognizes that players may be involved in other activities. Attendance to practice and tournaments is important for the success of the player and team. Attendance is generally at the discretion of the coaches; however, communication with the coach is mandatory.

14. My daughter does not have much experience. Will she get to play?
A:  Equal pay does not mean equal play; however, she would receive the same level of instruction and attention during practices from the coaches, which would give her the opportunity she needs to improve her skills.

15. I am in other sports and am not sure that I want to join yet. When is the absolute deadline to join?
A:  Girls who join at the time of Kick Off  and our placed will be assigned to a team if there is a coach for the team.   If you join later and we have reached the maximum number for that team, we may not be able to get you assigned to a team. You do have until December 1st to join, but ONLY if there are still spots available. The Club will take no further applications after December 1st UNLESS we need more players to complete a team.  For the older girls:  We should have teams assigned by Nov. 13th, so that you may make a decision as to whether you want to play for another club.  Formal practices for high school girls will not start until Dec. 1st.  We may request that those not in other sports help out with the practices of the younger girls.

16. Is there a Code of Ethics?
A:  Yes. Each player & parent must sign the Club Code of Ethics and the Regional Code of Ethics.

  1.  What do I do after the Parent Meeting?

A:  At the parent meeting you will be asked if you want to be part of Club.  You will be asked to put your name on a list and either fill out a PLAYER INFORMATION FORM, or an INTEREST FORM so that we can start to get the proper number of coaches.  Your daughter will then need to attend any special practices for her age group so we can place her on a team.  After Nov. 1st  and after your daughter has been informed of team assignment you will then sign up online for your regional membership.  Full instructions will be available on our website and in handouts at the meeting.  On Nov. 15th we will have our Kick Off at which time you will need to provide us with several forms, proof of Regional membership AND $100 of your dues.

     18.  When is the Kick-Off and what do I need to do?

A:  The Kick off for Club is set for Sunday, Oct. 15th- Location to be announced on website.  Everyone who provides us with a workable e-mail address at the Parent meeting will be notified of the kick off time.  This information will also be on the website and on the HOTLINE 846-1665.
